We here at the Gear Nuts love to get out no matter what the conditions are, and the one thing you can count on with four season adventures is surprise weather. You never know what you might get so being prepared is essential. What better way to be prepared than by compartmentalizing our packs with water resistant cases to keep your belongings dry and protected? Thats why we were excited to put the CHUMS Storm Series Traveler Bag under review.
Chums has designed this dual pocket accessory case to be watertight and extremely accessible. We found that the main compartment was a great size and due to the shape very versatile. It fits small binoculars, GPS unit, camera, first aid supplies, etc. The sky’s the limit as long as it fits in the Traveler Bag’s 3.75″ x 6″ x 2.5″ main compartment. In addition there is the second side compartment which isn’t very big but is definitely useful. Great for things like GoPro batteries, Chapstick, sun block, etc.
Now, I know you’ve heard heard us say it time and time again, but the YKK water resistant zippers are becoming an industry standard due to their amazing water resistant properties and the fact that they keep out all types of debris. Not to mention we’ve never experienced any type of sticking or catching which makes them perfect for all types of weather, even the extreme cold. In addition, the elongated zipper pulls are very user-friendly even when wearing gloves.
Chums has paired the Traveler case with a durable and waterproof material. In addition they’ve added the RF welded seams that make it extremely watertight. To test out these features, we ran this case under the tap for 10 minutes and there was no sign of water making its way into the case.
The Traveler Bag features two “hang on” loops that are a great addition without compromising the water tight seal. Whether you’re strapping the case to the bow of your kayak or hanging it up at camp for toiletries they make for two solid attachment points. Large enough for full size carabiners but not too cumbersome or big enough to snag on things in your pack.
If you’re looking for the protection of a dry bag but don’t want the hassle of the closure system, the Traveler Bag is perfect for you. We’ve taken it on two adventures now and it has outperformed our expectations. Water resistant and extremely durable, it’s a great bag for all-weather adventures. See you on the trails!
